Art & Photography

At Badminton, girls benefit from encountering a very wide range of artists and artistic techniques. Pupils work in the beautiful Creative Arts Centre, where bright studios are accompanied by a contemporary gallery space. Here, girls can quickly develop their own sense of artistic identity.

We have a technique-led teaching method so that girls quickly develop the confidence to produce sophisticated and personal artwork.

Every day I am part of a creative process and I love seeing how the girls interpret ideas… It’s like nowhere else I’ve worked. I love it.

Mrs Allen, Art Teacher

In the Lower School, projects are themed to enable girls to discuss art concepts, create designs and make artworks which are displayed in a popular yearly KS3 Art Exhibition. Girls have the opportunity to be part of a Fashion Show and to attend Art Clubs. Throughout the Lower School, girls encounter:

A LEVEL

In Fine Art A Level, the projects are initially set by staff to ensure syllabus coverage, but topics are open-ended and designed to encourage individual interpretation. The course is lively and stimulating, giving girls a chance to combine seeing, feeling, thinking and making so that they become powerful visual communicators. Girls will enjoy setting projects around:

In A Level Photography, girls are encouraged to develop their technical and creative ability. We enjoy a purpose-built darkroom for traditional black and white 35mm photography, Canon E0S digital cameras, studio lighting and a suite of computers running Adobe Creative Suite.

A good number of girls go on to work in the creative industries, including Fine Art, Graphic Design, Architecture, Fashion, Animation, Photography and Arts Journalism. Those who work in other areas take with them from Badminton a strong aesthetic sense and a confidence about visual communication skills.

The Art teaching at Badminton was fantastic!
